PURPOSE:To realize a high-accuracy thermal effluent diffusion investigating method which can reduce time, labor, and cost by measuring the flow duration of sea water with an ultrasonic wave, underwater temperature and a water quality distribution, and the position of a ship simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:The flow duration of the sea water is measured by emitting an ultrasonic wave pulse into the water from a transmitter receiver mounted at the top side of the ship. Further, the temperature in the water is measured by connecting thermosensors which incorporate hydraulic pressure gauges, etc., at measurement depths of water by a stainless wire, etc., and recording the temperature distribution in three dimensions while towing the wire. The position of the ship in the ocean is measured by a light wave range measuring instrument on the land, and the responsible person on the ship compares a received value projection point with an expected line to be measured and corrects the direction if there is a difference to guide the ship to an accurate direction. Then, the position of the ship, the flow duration of the sea water, and the temperature in the water and water quality distribution are measured simultaneously, and those measured values are recorded on the same magnetic tape as pieces of information at the same position and the same time and processed by a large-sized computer.
