PURPOSE:To determine the residual resisting force against buckling load of a corroded steel pipe by pressing the outer surface of the corroded steel pipe by a prescribed load and calculating out-of-surface deformation resistance on the basis of the amount of the resultant deformation of the outer surface of the steel pipe and the load. CONSTITUTION:Part of the outer surface of a corroded steel pipe member 11 used in a corrosive environment while supporting an object to be supported or the circumference of the steel pipe member is radially pressed (13a, 13b) and pressing load and the amount of deformation in pressing are measured (24, 25). Since the buckling resistant force of the corroded steel pipe member 11 is obtained as a stress that minimizes the whole potential energy due to bending strain produced with axial direction compressive strain and out-of- surface deformation, out-of-surface deformation resistance is calculated on the basis of the pressing load and the amount of deformation. Buckling load resistant force is estimated by conducting calculation based on the out-of-surface deformation resistance or by referring to a table. Compressive load resistant force is determined by the buckling load resistant force.
