SEGMENTING SYSTEM FOR CONTOUR OF PICTURE AREA

PURPOSE:To realize a form recognition with high accuracy, by storing a parameter which regulates a straight line equation other than a pointer, or an end mark, at each line segment approximating data, and finding the apex of an approximate polygon as the intersection of a straight line. CONSTITUTION:Three picture element data adjacent to the present picture element position are read by an outline tracing program, and the progressing directions of the data are decided. A straight line template is referred corresponding to the progressing direction, and the pointer, and a new pointer, and straight line parameter corresponding to the direction, can be obtained. And a process is performed when the pointer is decided as the end mark by a straight line deciding program, by setting the present picture element position as a new start point, and the same process is repeated when the pointer is other than the end mark. In such way, the straight line parameter, and an end point coordinate are registered in order at a straight line string table. An intersection calculation program finds the intersection of a straight line based on those data, and the coordinate is registered at an apex string table, and the form recognition with high accuracy can be performed.
