JAPANESE CHARACTER THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTER WITH AUTOMATIC SWITCHING FUNCTION FOR EMPHASIZING PRINTING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To maximize the effect of emphasizing printing, by providing data for designating a one-pass exphasizing system or a two-pass emphasizing system correspondingly to each character in addition to bit pattern data corresponding to each character, in a character generator, and providing a function for realizing the two types of emphasizing printing system. CONSTITUTION:A character generator is provided which stores bit pattern data for printing characters and information indicative of an optimum emphasizing printing system, and two types of emphasizing printing systems are provided. At the time of emphasizing printing, emphasizing printing is realized by automatically selecting an appropriate one of the two systems in consideration of bit patterns and the information indicative of the optimum emphasizing printing system. Data indicative of the emphasizing system in the character generator is based on a one-pass emphasizing system as a standard, and a two-pass emphasizing system is designated for a character which would become illegible if it is printed by the one-pass emphasizing system. At the time of printing, the data indicative of the emphasizing system is normally referenced, and when an emphasis command is sent from a host device, the emphasizing printing system corresponding to the relevant character is selected, and emphasizing printing is realized.
