PURPOSE:To attain automatic maintenance management of rule knowledge without using manual operation by providing the titled system with a metainference means for executing inference relating to rule knowledge maintenance management. CONSTITUTION:A knowledge base 5 stores some rule knowledge sets 50a-n each of which includes plural rule knowledge elements and a metarule knowledge set 51. When an instruction for the maintenance management of rule knowledge is inputted from an I/O device 7, an inference means 1 starts the metainference means 2. The inference means 2 extracts a knowledge set 51 through a knowledge base management means 4 to execute metainference by using the metarule of the knowledge set 51. After the end of metainference based upon the means 2, the result of metainference is informed to a rule maintenance management means 3. The management means 3 decides the result, and if the correction of the rule knowledge is necessary, the rule is deleted, corrected or added on the basis of the inference result obtained by the means 2.
