PURPOSE:To promote the promptness of movement with no generation of a break in a workpiece and in a rotary grinding wheel, by holding a peripheral speed of the rotary grinding wheel to a specific range and feeding the rotary grinding wheel and the workpiece so as to be relatively moved in a cutting direction in a feed moving speed of a predetermined value or more. CONSTITUTION:In order to cut by a rotary grinding wheel 12 a groove of depth (d) laterally extended in the upper part of workpiece 2, relative height between a shaft 10 and a table 4 regulated so that the grinding wheel 12 interferes from an upper surface of the workpiece 2 to the predetermined depth (d) of cut. And a device rotates the grinding wheel 12 in the direction of an arrow head 16 in the drawing by energizing a driving source 14 while feeds the table 4 and the workpiece 2 in the upper surface to be moved in the direction of an arrow head 8 in the drawing by energizing a driving source 6. Here for attaining a feed speed 30mm/sec about 1.8 times the maximum value of feed speed in the past, a peripheral speed of the grinding wheel 12 is important to be set to 1,000-5,500m/min. being basically the same even if the depth of cut, thickness of cut, quality of the workpiece 2, quality of the grinding wheel 12 and the like are changed.
