PURPOSE:To obtain a low-viscosity rosin material having a high softening point for hot-melt adhesives, which has good compatibility with a base polymer, by melting a rosin material with heating in an N2 stream, and subjecting said material to a vacuum distillation treatment to distill off a distillate in excess of a specified amount. CONSTITUTION:Rosin or an esterified material thereof is molten by heating it in an N2 stream. While keeping the melting temperature, the pressure is lowered to 100mm.Hg or below. Under this presence, the molten rosin material is subjected to a vacuum distillation treament to distil off a distillate in an amount corresponding to at least 35wt% based on the amount of the originally charged rosin material. These can be obtd. a rosin material for hot-melt adhesives, which has a low melt viscosity of 100cps or lowe at 200 deg.C, a high softening point of 90 deg.C or higher, and good compatibility with a base polymer such as a polyamide polymer or a synthetic rubber polymer.
