OPERATING METHOD FOR CROSS-FLOW WATER TURBINE

PURPOSE:To sufficiently and effectively use the water head from a runner in a cross-flow water turbine and a water discharge level to increase the output power of the water turbine, by submerging and operating the runner in water. CONSTITUTION:Water is filled in a housing 3 and a draft tube 4, and therefore, a runner 1 is operated in a submerged condition. The effective head He1 of this submerged operation is greater than the effective head of conventional in-air operation, and therefore, the head is effectively used. Meanwhile, as to the efficiency of a water turbine, the efficiency of the in-air operation is higher than that of the submerged operation, normally by about 4-5%. However, such a low head causes great influence by a difference in effective head. With this arrangement it is possible to enhance the output of the water turbine by use of a cross-flow water turbine provided with a draft tube.
