The base sheet may be a woven fabric, glass fleece, non-woven fabric of polyvinyl alcohol fibre, rag or asbestos felt, cotton fabric, jute cloth, paper, polyester film or laminate thereof with a glass fleece, or copper or aluminium foil. The fibrous sheets may be impregnated with bitumen and the fibres or foils subjected to blasting or etching prior to coating with molten bitumen. The rubber and/or resin of the compound layer may be rubber derived from styrene-butadiene, acrylonitrile-butadiene, chloroprene, butadiene, isoprene, ethylene-propylene Πdiene, isobutylene, or chlorinated polyethylene, butyl rubber, natural or reclaimed rubber, cumarone-indene resin, polybutene, petroleum resin or rosin or a derivative thereof such as estergum. The compound layer may also contain oils and fats, pertoleum oil as a softener, and mica filler.
