A curing agent for amino resins comprises the following constituents: (a) from 30 to 92.5% by weight of a compound containing amino groups, (b) from 5 to 35% by weight of an ammonium salt of an inorganic or organic acid, (c) from 2 to 30% by weight of a guanamine, and (d) from 0.5 to 10% by weight of a monobasic or polybasic inorganic or organic acid having a pKa value of 2, the percentages by weight being based on the total weight of the curing agent, and the amount of the constituents adding up to 100% by weight. The curing agent is particularly suitable for gluing the surfaces of wood materials, in particular for a process using a pressing temperature of not more than 120 DEG C.
