Method of separating andd recovering a granulate from a viscous suspension containing the granulate is effected by placing the suspension in a layer on an endless sieve belt guided around return rollers and effecting a sepn. into a sieve residue contg. the granulate, which remains behind on the belt, and a stream of material passed by the belt. The stream of material is collected between the forward and backward runs of the sieve conveyor belt, and the sepd. granulate is dumped from the conveyor belt. As the layer of granulate contg. the suspension is placed, and residues, on the sieve belt conveyor, at least one edge not defined by the edges of the conveyor is formed and maintained on the layer, and at least during the placement of the layer of viscous material on the conveyor, a stream of air is maintained by one or more air moving means is passed downwardly through the sieve conveyor belt and/or the layer is exposed to vibration via the conveyor belt.
