An aq. waste stream contg. organic and inorganic material, e.g. liq. manure, is treated by (a) sepg. a fraction (I) with increased content of dry matter, and a fraction (II) with decreased content of dry matter, (b) heating fraction (II) to at least 80 deg. C, opt. with addn. of a flocculant and/or precipitant,, and then sepg. the solids from the aq. liq. Opt., the aq. waste stream may be heated to at least 80 deg. C, flocculant and/or precipitant may opt. be added, and the solids sepd. from the aq. liq.
