Method and device for preventing forest decline

The invention relates to a method for preventing forest decline by spraying trees and shrubs with an aqueous alkaline earth metal bicarbonate solution, if appropriate followed by spraying with an aqueous potassium carbonate solution or ammonium carbonate solution, and, if appropriate, repeating this process. This gives rise to a dry protective film of alkaline earth metal carbonate on the tree surface, and, furthermore, acidic components and soluble heavy-metal compounds in the soil are neutralized and thus rendered harmless. The aqueous alkaline earth metal bicarbonate solution is prepared with the aid of the device of Fig. 1 in a container I which contains particulate, granular or pulverulent alkaline earth metal carbonate and water and into which moderately pressurized carbon dioxide gas is passed, if appropriate with stirring. If appropriate, this solution additionally contains wetters and/or diluents or thickeners and/or crop protection agents and/or a dye and/or an excess of alkaline earth metal carbonate slurry.
