Collagen gel prodn. from animal tendon

Prodn. of collagen gels for mfr. of thin films is effected by (a) comminuting clean animal tendon in the presence of 65% water to form a collagen slurry, where the tendon has a collagen content of at least 30% and is free of ligament tissue; (b) treating the slurry with 0.1-0.5 wt.% Rhozyme 41, based on collagen solids content; (c) swelling the slurry with lactic, maleic, succinic, malic, oxalic or tartaric acid; and (d) homogenising and deaerating the resulting suspension.
