5-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-2-nitro-α- substituted acetophenones with herbicidal effects represented by the formula IMAGE in which R1 and Y are as defined in the description, process for the preparation of the same, herbicide composition and method for the destruction of weeds. Herbicides comprising the above compounds are capable of selectively controlling weeds among crop plants.
