AUTOMATIC OUTPUT CONTROL CIRCUITRY FOR RF POWERAMPLIFIERS WITH WIDE DYNAMIC RANGEAbstract of the DisclosureAutomatic power output control circuitry isdisclosed in which the magnitude of a radio frequencysignal is maintained at one of a plurality of magnitudesselected in response to control signals. The radiofrequency signal output from a variable output amplifieris sampled and the sample is further amplified and thedynamic range compressed prior to being rectified. Therectified power magnitude signal, which is nonlinearlyrelated to the radio frequency signal magnitude, isadjusted by an adjustment factor selected by the controlsignals and employed in varying the output of thevariable output amplifier to produce a correspondingradio frequency signal output magnitude.
