- 33 -Abstract of the DisclosureA security system arrangement utilizing a standardPBX for monitoring a plurality of concurrently administrableguard tours. The PBX comprises a control processor whichincludes a main memory containing a number of featureprocessing algorithms. One such feature processingalgorithm is the security monitoring algorithm. Thisalgorithm monitors the activities of tour guards as theguards progress through the tours. In particular, aprogrammable memory defines a plurality of tours. Each tourcomprises a finite list of sequentially defined checkpointswhere each checkpoint is a designated conventional stationset of the PBX. A security controller activates thesecurity system by "dialing" the appropriate feature code ata central control facility, such as an attendant console.The security controller then selects one or more of theavailable tours by "dialing" a tour code. Following theselection and activation of a tour, a tour guard "dials" acheck-in code at each checkpoint and progresses sequentiallythrough the checkpoints contained in the list comprising theselected tour or tours. The tour guard has an allottedamount of time in which to reach each of the designatedcheckpoints included in the tour sequence. The tour issuccessfully concluded when the tour guard sequentiallychecks-in within the allotted time at each of the designatedcheckpoints included in a tour. However, if the propercheck-in sequence is not followed or if the allotted timeperiod elapses before the tour guard reaches the nextcheckpoint in the sequence, the control processor- 34 -detects these conditions and generates an alarm to indicatethat the tour sequence is disrupted. This alarm signals acondition that requires investigation.
