ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:A continuous casting mold for selectively casting strandsof different widths and thicknesses includes two firstplate-shaped side walls arranged opposite each other anddefining a mold cavity at two opposite sides, each of thetwo first side walls having a recess at one side edge, twosecond side walls each arranged so as to be sunk in one ofsaid recesses at an angle to said first side walls, thesecond side walls having front surfaces pressable againstthe first side walls so as to form a peripherally closedmold cavity. The first side walls may be subdivided intoseveral parts assembled in the manner of a circulatingcontinuous chain, each chain being guided over an upper anda lower deflection pulley. In a method for operating acontinuous casting mold of the above-defined kind, theadjustment force relative the strand is measured duringcasting, and a lower deflection pulley is adjusted to theoppositely arranged lower deflection pulley until the twooppositely arranged strand shells contact each other.
