To measure the biological activity of an experimental animal (T), the experimental animal (T) is kept on the platform (P) of a physical-electronic sensor (PES), for example in a cage (K) on which it is free to move. The balance (W) transmits the data (D) relevant to the kinetic activity of the experimental animal (T) to an evaluation unit (AE) which calculates the mean value of the activity (A^¨B7) and the variation in weight (Δg). Downstream of the evaluation unit (AE) can be connected an output unit (2G) which represents the data (D) and/or the calculated values (A^¨B7, ΣA^¨B72, Δg, s) graphically. The physical-electronic sensor is preferably an electronic balance based on the principle of electromagnetic force compensation.
