Process for the preparation of N-alkyl-substituted hydroxylammonium chlorides, characterized in that an aryl-aldimine of the formula see diagramm : EP0217269,P9,F1 in which R1 , R2 and R3 , independently of one another, represent hydrogen, optionally substituted saturated alkyl, optionally substituted saturated cycloalkyl and/or optionally substituted alkinyl, and R1 and R2 , together with the C atom to which they are bonded, can also form an optionally substituted saturated cycloalkyl radical, and R4 and R5 , independently of one another, represent hydrogen, optionally substituted saturated alkyl, optionally substituted saturated cyclo-alkyl, optionally substituted saturated alkoxy and/or optionally substituted saturated cyclo-alkoxy, at least one of the radicals R4 and R5 having a meaning other than hydrogen, is reacted with perpropionic acid in the presence of a solvent, propionic acid at least is then separated off, and subsequently hydrolysing with aqueous hydrochloric acid.
