In this device light is irradiated from a light source, preferably an He-Ne laser, into a measuring cell in which the test medium is located. The light emerging from the cuvette is measured with a light detector (photomultiplier). In order to eliminate the influence of extraneous light, it is advantageous to connect a chopper downstream of the laser and to process the measurement signal received at the photomultiplier in a lock-in amplifier connected to a computer and recorder at the output of the photomultiplier.
