A bullet proof door (3) is mounted on hinges (2) on a bullet proof wall (1). The door has a rebated edge which overlaps the rebated edge of the wall, with gaps (4,5) between the door and wall. Both door and wall are of sandwich construction with wooden or plastics panels fitted on each side of metal plates or armoured plate glass (9,9'). The dimensions of the rebates of the wall and door are so arranged that the plane connecting the edge of the glass or plate in the door with the edge of the glass or plate in the wall is inclined to the plane of the wall and door at an angle (alpha) which is less than 65 deg.
