The spiral compressor comprises at least one displacement chamber (4) extending over more than 360 deg. from an inlet (20) to an outlet (21) between spiral-shaped walls (5,6) projecting axially from housing (8) side walls. A spiral-shaped displacement member (3) extends over more than 360 deg. in the chamber and orbits without rotating. Its centre (16) is eccentrically displaced (E) from the centre (17) of the walls (5,6) such that it is in progressive contact with both walls at at least one point (B1-B4). The displacement member is arranged on a disc (1;2) which is carried on an eccentric (10) arranged on the drive shaft (9) and is guided at different points at distances from the eccentric. To absorb any length differences between the chamber and the member, the eccentricity (E) of the eccentric is variable, e.g. the eccentric is arranged with clearance (flats 22) on the drive shaft possibly with interposed spring. USE/ADVANTAGE - IC engine charger compressor. Length differences between the chamber and the displacement member can occur through differential thermal expansion, e.g. after initial start, and/or mfr. tolerances. The variable eccentricity absorbs this irrespective of the manner of the disc guidance.
