Sloping roof with traditional tiles - uses moisture proof layer under metal or plastics tile retaining strips in line with joists

Tiles (7) made of e.g. stone are carried by sloping joists (3) supported by longitudinal rafters (2) to form a roof of traditional appearance on an old building or monument. Under the tiles is a layer (4) of moisture proof material, resting on the joists and carrying strips (5) of material parallel to and in line with the joists. The strips form anchorage strips for the tiles, and interlock with a hooked part (6) on the underside of each tile, extending from end to end. These connections avoid damaging the moisture proof layer, and use grooves cut into the rear surface of each tile. The strips can be of flexible plastics material or of metal with a corrosion protection treatment. ADVANTAGE - Rain and snow are excluded.
