A holder and guide arrangement for a measurement or monitoring instrument in a tube is pref. for use in a tube subjected to flexing and mounted inside a gas-cooled nuclear reactor. The arrangement enables measurement elements, esp. thermoelements, to be placed in and removed from positions of difficult access inside the reactor, e.g. beneath toe core, for which the tube must be bent or twisted. The tube contains several guide elements joined together by linkages and able to slide within the tube. The linkages may be ball joints and the guide elements may be in the form of tubular rods. The outer tube is an immersion tube. The linkages also carry roller bearings which are in rolling contact with the inner wall surface of the immersion tube.
