Method for fluidizing the sludge which forms in hydrocarbon storage tanks (1), and the immediate reclamation thereof by the user, consisting, after the residual liquid has been drained off, in subjecting the previously analyzed sludge to a cold treatment using an organic solvent which has a known composition and is free from additives and which is introduced inside the tank in the form of jets by means of adjustable nozzles (16), and in recovering the liquid formed, via the tank drainage orifices, characterized in that the relief of the sludge is first of all recorded, the nozzles (16) are directed towards the projecting parts of the sludge, a quantity of solvent is introduced such that at least part of the surface of the sludge remains emersed and the viscosity of the liquid formed is monitored.
