A data transmission system with associated processing, encryption and decryption for the audio-visual domain (home and studio systems) characterised in that the data are processed digitally in a transmitter, transmitted in interference-resistant fashion via an optical waveguide (LWL) and recovered in the receiving component, designated individual receivers being selectable from a multiplicity of connected receivers. This system is characterised by the ability of the transmitter to process analog as well as digital incoming data and combinations thereof in such a way that transmission on the optical waveguide and subsequent decoding can be performed in an identical manner.
