The invention relates to a method and a device for convective drying and subsequent cooling of pourable bulk materials in a round cooler/dryer. The bulk material is cooled or dried in counterflow in the round cooler/dryer. In order to make possible optimum temperature management of the air flow, it is envisaged that the air flowing through the round cooler/dryer from the bottom to the top is, on its way through the round cooler/dryer, heated at least once to a higher temperature with the aid of a heating arrangement.
