Method of producing a mandibular prosthesis and a maxillary prosthesis for toothless jaws. First of all, a first impression is made by means of a mandibular impression tray and a maxillary impression tray, and on the basis of this first impression a mandibular bite plate and a maxillary bite plate are produced, each comprising a firm base and bite rim. The mandibular bite plate and the maxillary bite plate are then inserted into the mouth of the patient and the occlusal height is adjusted and the habitual relation is marked thereon. After adjustment of the occlusal height and marking of the habitual relation, interlocking elements which can be locked on assembly of the two bite plates are built by the laboratory into the mandibular bite plate and the maxillary bite plate in accordance with the habitual relation. Thereafter, the functional impressions are made in the practice with the aid of the mandibular bite plate and the maxillary bite plate, while the interlocking elements in the mouth of the patient coincide and close in the same manner. The corresponding functional impressions are then used to produce the mandibular prosthesis and the maxillary prosthesis. The invention also specifies interlocking elements for performing the method.
