Aqueous coating composition based on nitrocellulose, process for its preparation and its use, in particular, for coating wood, foils (films) and paper

The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition based on nitrocellulose which contains possibly water-dilutable film-forming binders and conventional additives and coating auxiliaries. The coating composition is obtainable by dissolving the nitrocellulose in a water-dilutable organic solvent for nitrocellulose and adding water, the water-dilutable organic solvent for nitrocellulose being present in a proportion of from 15 to 35 % by weight, the nitrocellulose in a proportion of from 5 to 40 % by weight and water in a proportion of from 35 to 70 % by weight, based on the overall weight of the coating composition. It is preferred additionally to use a latent solvent for nitrocellulose. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the above-described aqueous coating compositions and to their use, in particular, for coating wood, sheets (foils) and paper.
