To improve the efficiency of the burning of solid propellants and for improving the reproducibility of the burning behaviour, the invention provides a process for improving the pressure dependence of the burning behaviour of solid propellants or gun propellants, which contain nitrocellulose or other solid monomeric or polymeric nitro compounds or nitrate compounds as well as stabilisers and other additives and also metals or metal compounds as components affecting the burning rate, wherein the metals or metal compounds are processed by freeze-drying.
