This invention relates to a medium for the adsorption of fat-soluble substances hazardous to health which are absorbed with the diet, which medium is characterised by a partial alkylation or arylation of water-soluble polymers having a molecular weight above 500 dalton. Partial alkylation or arylation of the polymers, moreover, achieves the medium being osmotically active in aqueous solutions and as a result active adsorption of lipophilic substances hazardous to health can occur.
