The invention relates to a sealing system for a boring head (2) which is rotatably mounted in a driving shield (1) and carries at its rear peripheral area a gear rim (16) with which drive pinions (15) of the boring-head drives (13) mesh. According to the invention, the gear rim (16) is arranged in the interior of an oil trough (18) which is sealed off to prevent the admission of dirt. In this arrangement, the annular gap (30) at the outer periphery of the boring head is sealed off in the end area on the face side by means of a peripheral seal (I) and at a distance behind it in the transition area to the oil trough (18) by means of a rear seal (II). At the same time, a lubricant, in particular lubricating grease or the like, can be fed into the annular gap (30), preferably in the sealing area and/or in the area between the seals (I and II). The lubricant at the same time increases the sealing effect of the seals. The seals in each case preferably consist of several lip seals (31, 48) connected one behind the other. Further seals (III, IV) which correspond to the function of the outer seals (I and II) are conveniently provided in the inner peripheral area of the oil trough (18) between a pressure wall (6) and a wall element (22) arranged at the rear on the boring head.
