The process according to the invention solves the problem of the preparation of bromine-containing polyesterols under mild conditions without elimination of by-products. An essential feature of the process is the addition of bromine at a temperature of from 10 to 100@C, advantageously from 20 to 40@C, to a polyesterol containing either esterified or non-bonded glycol having the general formula HOCH2-R-CH2OH, in which R is a group having the formula -HC=CH- or -C IDENTICAL C-.
