The invention relates to a gynaecological probe for injecting semen or embryos into the uterine cavity of animals, in particular mares, this probe being constituted by a flexible protective sheath in which there is slidably mounted a semen reservoir/tube provided with a movable blocking pad on which there bears a plunger for ejecting the semen, the operating end of this reservoir/tube comprising a spherical head and lateral semen ejection orifices. This probe is characterised in that it contains a semi-rigid sleeve which can move axially with respect to the protective sheath 1 and the plunger 2, the latter comprising a tubular tip 6 for coupling it with the reservoir/tube 4, the said sleeve being provided on the one hand at its end with a stop 7 limiting its travel in translation with respect to the sheath 1, and on the other hand means for displaying the position of the spherical head of the tube/reservoir with respect to the end of the said protective sheath 1.
