Visual information system to add subtitle to live performance - has screen provided for each audience member to complemental acted scenes with centrally synchronised titles or translation
The scene (1) to be sub-tilted or translated is linked to a triggering and synchronising unit (7) either by the actions of an operator or by automatic identification of key words or lighting effects. These cause the release of pre-recorded sub-titles (50), translations, or other phrases into an interface unit (500) which develops a multiplexed signal for transmission (510) to the audience by radio, ultrasound, or infrared signals. Every row or group of seats has a corresponding receiver (520) which is linked to individual display units (20) provided for each occupant. These units incorporate a selector system (650,820), permitting individual choice, which activates an image generator (21) to present the desired information via an optical system (22) on a screen (23). This screen may be positioned so that it is viewed in proximity to the active scene (1) or may be transparent so that the latter is seen through it. ADVANTAGE - Individual displays permit simultaneous presentation with choice of language. Ensures accurate synchronisation whilst allowing interjection if required.
