The invention relates to means for studying the interactions of a retrovirus defined with cell lines that can be infected by this retrovirus. IT INVOLVES A DEFECTIVE RECOMBINANT RETROVIRUS DERIVED FROM THE RETROVIRUS IN QUESTION, CONTAINING THE PARTIES ACTING IN "CIS" OF THIS RETROVIRUS WHICH NORMALLY ENSURES ITS PACKAGING, ITS RESERVATION-TRANSCRIPTION IN A DNA MOLECULE AND ITS INTEGRATION IN THE GENOME OF THE CELL-HOST THIS RECOMBINANT RETROVIRUS IS CHARACTERIZED BY PARTIAL OR TOTAL SUBSTITUTION OF THE SEQUENCES ENCODING ITS VIRAL PROTEINS BY A GENE SEQUENCE ENCODING ITSELF FOR A PROTEIN ACTING AS A MARKER OF INFECTED CELLS. DETECTION OF THE MARKER IN CELLS OF SENSITIVITY TO INFECTION IS STUDYED OF THEIR CAPACITY TO BE INFECTED BY WILD RETROVIRUS. / P
