A herbicidal composition comprising a herbicidally effective among ofPP(a) a photosynthesis-inhibiting herbicidally active compound, andPP(b) a synergistically effective amount of a carbamate derivative of the formula (II) ##STR1## in which R. sup.1 is alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl or optionally substituted phenyl, PPR.sup.2 is alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl or optionally substituted cycloalkylalkyl,PPR.sup.3 is hydrogen, --CO--OR.sup.4, -- CO--CO--OR.sup.5 or --CO--CO--NR.sup.6 R.sup.7,PPR.sup.4 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl or optionally substituted phenyl,P PR.sup.5 is alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl, andPPR.sup.6 and R.sup.7 each independently is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl.
