2,2-Bis-(3-nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane is prepared by oxidation of 2,2-bis-(4-methylphenyl)-hexafluoropropane to 2,2-bis-(4- carboxyphenyl)- hexafluoropropane, nitration of this compound to 2,2-bis- (4-carboxy-3- nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane and decarboxylation of the last-mentioned compound.PPThe process lends to 2,2-bis-(3- nitrophenyl)- hexafluoropropane, free of isomers, in an industrially simple manner and with the use of common chemicals. The compound is a valuable intermediate in the polymer field.PPThe 2,2-bis- (4-carboxy-3- nitrophenyl)-hexafluoropropane occurring as an intermediate in the process is novel.
