PURPOSE:To easily separate and recover Mo and W from a material contg. Mo and W such as high-speed tool steel scrap at a low cost by converting the Mo and W in the material into oxides, treating the material with an alkali soln. to leach the oxides and adding an acid to the soln. contg. the leached oxides to cause precipitation. CONSTITUTION:A material contg. Mo and (or) W such as high-speed tool steel scrap is recovered. When the Mo and W are contained in the form of metals, the material is treated by oxidation roasting or other method to convert the Mo and W into oxides. The material is then treated with an alkali soln. such as an aq. NaOH soln. to leach the Mo and W oxides. An acid is added to the soln. contg. the leached oxides to form a precipitate and this precipitate is recovered by filtration and roasted. The Mo and (or) W are separated and recovered in the form of acids and the recovered product is suitable for use as starting material for steel manufacture.
