PURPOSE:To easily and rapidly inspect bacteria with high sensitivity by using a reagent for enzyme immunoassay prepd. by labeling peroxidase to an antigen by using the N-(maleimidealkanoyloxy)succimide expressed by the specific formula. CONSTITUTION:The reagent of n=5 in the formula I, i.e., N-(epsilon- maleimidecaproyloxy)succimide(succimidyl-6-maleimidehexanoate) is used. The conjugate expressed by the formula II is first obtd. by bringing a maleimide compd. and -NH group of enzyme into reaction in order to conjugate the peroxidase (enzyme) and the antibody by using the above-mentioned material. This compd. is then brought into reaction with the antibody having the -SH group to obtain the complex expressed by the formula III. The material to label the enzyme is the antibody itself to the somatic antigen. The peroxidase derived from Western horse-radish has the highest stability as the enzyme to be used for labeling and the highest sensitivity is obtainable if a colorimetric method is used.
