PURPOSE:To permit high precision positioning by picture recording the mark of one of master plates, changing the position of the master plate so as to permit the real image of the mark to match with the recorded image while calling the recorded image and comparing it with the real image of the mark of the other master plate. CONSTITUTION:The master plates 2a and 2b are installed on the holders 42a and 42b respectively so as to permit the effective plates to face inside. The holders 42a and 42b are shifted in the z-axis direction and the effective planes are adhered to each other. Spot light is projected on the upper part and the bottom part of the master plate from each light source 46, a camera 44 is focused on the resister mark 4b on the master plate on the spot light source side and the mark is photographed, and each image is stored in a memory part.
