PRESERVATION AND TRANSPORTATION OF LIVING PRAWNS

PURPOSE:To enable living prawns to be transported and stored for a long time, by placing living prawns in a vessel filled with a thermal insulation material and cooling the material around the prawns with the down flowing cold air. CONSTITUTION:A vessel made of, e.g., polystyrene foam 10 is filled with a thermal insulating material such as saw dust 11 and living prawns 12 are placed in appropriate arrangement in the insulation material 11. Then, cooling source which includes a plastic bag 13 containing ice pieces 14 on its both ends are placed and an insulating material 15 at the center is placed on the upper part in the vessel 10. The cool air which is cooled down by the ice flows down along the periphery of the insulation material 11 to cool the insulating material and the side walls of the vessel 10, while the outside air is shut out, whereby the prawns 12 are kept at an appropriate temperature. The material of the plastic bag is preferably water-impermeable, so that the melted water may not flow down.
