PURPOSE:To manufacture an inexpensive metallic boride ceramics having impact resistance, by preparing a sintered compact by successively adding metallic compounds for binder, such as Co compounds, carbides, etc., to metallic borides such as TiB2 by respectively specific quantities. CONSTITUTION:At least one kind among respective compounds of Co, Fe, and Ni as iron group metals is added by 0.1-5wt.%, based on the total weight, as a metallic compound for binder to at least one kind among metallic borides such as TiB2, ZrB2, CrB2, HfB2, and VB2 so as to be formed into a principal- component powder. Subsequently, one or more kinds among carbides, double carbides, carbonitrides, and double carbonitrides (respectively consisting of Ti, Hf, Zr, etc.) are added to the above-mentioned principal components so that they comprise 0.1-10wt.% of the total weight. By this method, the high- density metallic boride ceramics which is inexpensive and excellent in impact resistance can be obtained. This ceramics is useful as cutting tool material and wear-resistant material.
