PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory material having high spalling resistance and high thermal shock resistance by compounding siliceous stone having a specified grain size with a refractory aggregate consisting of MgO and CaO. CONSTITUTION:The title refractory material is one obtd. by compounding 0.5-3 pts.wt. siliceous stone having 0.5-5mm grain size with 100pts.wt. refractory aggregate consisting of 25-90wt.% MgO and 75-10wt.% CaO. Suitable refractory aggregate to be used is natural dolomite clinker, synthetic dolomite clinker, sintered magnesia clinker, electrocasted magnesia clinker, sintered or electrocasted maglime clinker, etc. If the content of MgO in the above-described refractory material is 25wt.%, the slaking resistance is insufficient and the slag resistance decreases. On the other hand, if the content of MgO is 90wt.%, the spalling resistance and the erosion resistance to slag decrease. Preferred grain size of the refractory aggregate is =ca.3mm.
