PRODUCTION OF VETIVER OIL OR VETIVEROL

PURPOSE:To obtain the title oil, having excellent aroma with enhanced aroma of khusimol and fixative properties, by adding a specific acid to vetiver oil and vetiverol, heating the resultant mixture and selectively decomposing the contained isovalencenol. CONSTITUTION:An acid, such as citric acid, phthalic acid, nicotinic acid, chloroacetic acid or 2-chloropropionic acid, having 1.0-3.0 pKa is added to vetiver oil or vetiverol and the resultant mixture is preferably heated at 50-180 deg.C temperature. Thereby decomposition is selectively carried out so as to reduce content of isovalencenol to =5wt.%. Furthermore, the molar amount of the added acid is preferably within the range of 0.1-2 times based on the content of the isovalencenol.
