PURPOSE:To expedite separation of water, when it is used for cooling low boiling point medium having a higher specific gravity than water, by providing cooling water separating dams inside a liquid reservoir so as to allow the liquid in a liquid reservoir to overflow the dams if cooling water may leak in the liquid of the low boiling point medium. CONSTITUTION:In a power generation plant, of low boiling point medium,exhaust gas from a turbine is cooled with cooling water in a condensor to form condensate, then a liquid of low boiling point medium is delivered from liquid lowering pipes 13 into a liquid reservoir 8. If cooling water may mix into the medium liquid due to a damage in a cooling pipe of the condensor, a layer A of water comes above a layer B of the medium liquid in the liquid reservoir 81 as shown in the figure (a). The layer A of water is detected and thereafter the liquids inside the liquid reservoir 8 are drained from the bottom until the liquid level becomes lower than the uppermost ends of dams 17a and 17b. Liquid is then added gradually to allow the surface liquid and its vicinity layer only to overflow the dams 17a and 17b, outward as shown in the figure (b). The overflow of medium liquid containing water is delivered to a water separation means by a pump 18 and water is therein separated from the medium liquid and removed.
