METHOD FOR PREVENTING INFECTION OF CATTLE WITH SALMONELLA DUBLIN

PURPOSE:To prevent the infection of cattle with Salmonella dublin, by administering the cattle with a specific strain derived from Salmonella dublin. CONSTITUTION:A Salmonella dublin-derived strain (P-) devoid of the plasmid having a molecular weight of 50 mega-dalton is administered to cattle to prevent the infection of the cattle with Salmonella dublin. P- can be prepared by culturing Salmonella dublin in a medium containing ethidium bromide at the maximum concentration to enable the growth of the strongly toxic wild strain of Salmonella dublin. There is no particular restriction in the method of administration, and the agent can be administered by intramuscular injection, etc. as well as subcutaneous injection and intravenous injection. The dose can be determined properly. It can be administered at a high dose because of its high safety. P- is useful as a live vaccine for the prevention of Salmonella dublin infection.
