PURPOSE:To prepare the titled graphite interlaminar compound of formula CxF(MgF2)y having stability to moisture, in high yield, by reacting a mixture of grahite and MgF2 in F atmosphere at a specific temperature range. CONSTITUTION:Natural graphite or artificial graphite obtained by the thermal treatment of petroleum coke, etc. is formed to flakes or powder and mixed with MgF2. The mixture is made to react in an F atmosphere at about 20-350 deg.C. The F pressure in the reaction system is 0.5-10atm, and the weight ratio of graphite to MgF2 is about 1:(0.8-10) when the 1st-stage compound is desired and is about 1:0.4 when the objective product is the 2nd-stage one. The periodic distance of the resultant interlaminar graphite compound of formula CxF(NgF2)yis 12.7-12.8Angstrom for the 1st stage, 12.7-12.8Angstrom for the 2nd stage, 16.0- 16.1Angstrom for the 3rd stage, and 19.4-19.5Angstrom for the 4th stage.
