METHOD OF MEASURING SOFTENING MELTABILITY OF COAL ADDED WITH PITCH OR THE LIKE

PURPOSE:To judge softening meltability of samples by a method wherein a sample added and blended with pitch or the like and loaded in a sample cell is heated with a constant heating rate while being pressed, thereby to measure contraction displacement. CONSTITUTION:A sample is prepared such that pitch or the like of a given amount is added to coal and then mixed to be uniformalized. Next, 40mg of this sample is loaded in a sample cell 5, which is set in an electric furnace 1 at a given position where the lower surface of a measuring rod 3 comes into contact with the upper surface of a sample 4. While supplying nitrogen gas 11 into the electric furnace 1, electric power is fed to a heating element to heat the temperature within the electric furnace 1 up to 600 deg.C at a heating rate 10 deg.C/min. During this heating process, data on changes in temperature as well as contraction displacement of the sample 4 due to the resultant softening fusion of the sample 4 are output to a recording unit 9.
